After
the snow, it was time for another weekend away in the caravan! So we hooked up our home, picked Oscar up, and off we went to Peketa!
You can see Christchurch where we live, and Peketa is a tiny Coastal place 10 minutes south of Kaikoura. It took approximately 2 hours to drive there.
It was SO beautiful! There was only one other camper there, so we had it almost to ourselves! We had a beachfront site, which meant that you couldn't quite see the beach from the site, but walked just a few metres and there it was!
We had the sea, the hills and the huge open skies all in one vision!
Saturday was the most beautiful day - 18C at least! Warm and even balmy!
First I cooked a HUGE breakfast for everyone - bacon, eggs, toast and OJ, and then down to the beach to explore.
Looking back UP the beach,
and just over the top is the caravan!
Looking towards the tunnels...
Looking back the other way, same spot...
The sea had all these lines on it... not sure why?
Looking back up again towards the hills.
The air was so clear!
Mike and I sitting on a seat ~
and there we go... looking from the beach!
Right close by, there was a flying fox which provided some entertainment for Oscar and Heath.
Unfortunately, Heath's shirt ripped on that little post!
They had parental supervision!!
The swinging boat! Mike gave them a heave-ho!
(I actually have quite a few videos, but have trouble loading them, so will you-tube them and then put the links here!)
Off we set for an explore around the area!
Saw some very interesting caravan set-ups
Can't remember why we took this photo, but here it is anyway! (I keep thinking it is for Kent somehow?? Not sure!)
Found this really old, battered sign showing all the tiny Coastal camping grounds along the Coast. Peketa didn't feature, as we were below these (perhaps #9!)
Goose Bay ~ a cute little camp grounds we drove around... Matthew C. reckons they camped there years ago when they were kids.
The other choices...
Aren't those old signs just so kiwiana and gorgeous!
The train came roaring past, off through those tunnels...
Goose Bay
Back out on the road again
There's the train tunnel!
We then drove right back to Kaikoura. It was getting a bit latish now, and the sun was heading off for the night!
Over the road, Encounter, where we had a VERY late lunch..
LOVE the art deco cinema (not that I am an art deco lover, but I really appreciate it!)
Drove on further, and found seals on the rocks!
Cute as ducks!
Back at the camp, boys found a volleyball net... getting rather dark now.. good photo considering!
Sunday afternoon, driving home on the inland route. We stopped at Mt Lyford at the beautiful 'resort' there for afternoon tea. Done with the hill country decor look!
The tables were incredible. All hand made timber, VERY think and highly varnished.
And then home an hour and a half later!

Hey Caroline, the photo you think is for Kent...I wonder if you took it because the caravan looks as though it's trying to sit at the table. Pretty sure it's been parked touching the seat!! Made me laugh anyway xxx Kristal
Hahahaha I hadn't noticed that, Kristal!! How funny! Once you said that, I saw the back of the caravan DID look like that! Thanks for looking, and the comments! xxx
Oh, and by the way, did you realise that Heath's car is your old one which you sold to Guy? Guy sold it to Heath really cheap, and when Heath sells it he is going to split the profits with Guy!! All boy deals!
You are having a ball! Just towing your home off on the weekends!! Great!
