Mike and I went for a bike ride after dinner all around the curfew area streets, for about 90 minutes. There was NOONE on the streets anywhere - it is like a ghost town.
When we were just coming towards home we discovered Lee - a gentleman we know, who works with Paul (Mike's brother) with water! All the residents were coming and coming with bottles, buckets and jars to fill up. It was such a gorgeous community spirit there. Good on you, Lee!
So, here are the photos from our bike ride. I know they are simply 'more of the same' but never mind - this is what is right around our own little neighbourhood. We realise again how fortunate we are in our own circumstances.

Barbadoes Street

Cupcake Parlour, Armagh Street - is no more!
The house Marilyn dislikes on the corner of their street (Peterborough). It will be going this time, Marilyn!
Up close and personal, the road on Dad's corner...
Mike - as we bike around the path to Dad's house
Dad's bolted gate!
Their front yard
Their sticker of 'OK' from the City Council Engineers
Peterborough Street - just along from Dad's
Lots of homes have these on them - Condemned to come down.
You might not be able to see, but this house was fascinating... almost like it was taking a deep breath and holding it's stomach in!
Corner Colombo and Peterborough Streets
Our curfew notice
Beautiful old Baptist Church - Madras /Kilmore Street
The fire station was unlucky, but there were so many fire engines all lined up here... firemen having cuppa's all set up on a cordoned off street.
The Avon River even took a hammering, altering roads, and big new mud islands popping up in the middle of the river!
We have watched the owners of this house painstakingly renovate this old cottage into a nice home for a long time, and now it is condemned!
Here we met Lee on one of the wee side roads, and what a lovely bonding spirit there as all were coping and being able to talk together about it.
Mike and a soldier yarning away...
(like this happens every day!!!)
Good night!
Love from Mike and Caroline
