This bright, fun-loving, positive family came to visit us for two days,
from Cleve (800 pop!) , South Australia! About 5 hours drive from Adelaide.
We have never met them before, but have been 'friends' on face~book for a couple of years. I love that!
Monday night, it was Denny's!
Tuesday morning, we set off to Akaroa for the day.
They took their camper van, and we also took Heath's car.
Stopped at a look out over Lyttelton Harbour, Diamond Harbour and the bays on Gebbies Pass Road.
Heath is putting his car on the market VERY soon,
so who knows, this might be the last pic of it!
Dropped in to Birdling's Flat.
Famous for it's amazing pebbles and stones which people come to all over the world, to collect and polish.
There is Tim photographing the stones....
And Madeline (12) finding some also
Jackson (19) throwing flat stones into the sea
Jeanette having a rest in the warm sun!
I love this beach ~ it has a very far-away sense about it, and a sense of ownership ~ untamed and wild.. It seemed to 'allow' us to be there!
Reckon someone was walking wonky after their visit!
Then suddenly, a quad bike came rattling across the beach towards us.
This quaint couple hunt for stones, then polish them, then come back to the beach looking for buyers!
$3 each!
Takes 3 hours to process each one. They scrape all the gunk off them first.
We got the works of how it is done.
They sell to the shops all around and I saw some selling a little later for $17 - $22
in a local Akaroa shop.
Here is a 'before' and 'after' (same stone type)
This one was Jeanette's favourite!
Stay tuned!
They return from the West Coast and Hanmer Springs,
tomorrow night for a bit more action!
